What a fascinating week it has been in New Zealand Politics! Leading the news has been Kim Dotcom’s Internet Party looking to poach MPs that are guaranteed to win a seat in the upcoming election. For the uninformed, that is the political party that hasn’t been formed yet, that has a founder that is a convicted fraudster, and cannot run for office because he is not a New Zealander. And did I mention that pesky little extradition case that is floating around? Ironically, around the same date as the New Zealand election Mr Dotcom aka Mr Kimble aka Mr Vester aka Mr Schmitz will probably be sent to the USA to face indictments for crimes related to online piracy, including racketeering, conspiring to commit copyright infringement, and conspiring to commit money laundering.
This was followed up today by news that the ex-mayor of Auckland’s North Shore has been a bully (again), this time to his NZ First staff. The New Zealand Herald reported that MP Andrew Williams
‘…is understood to have sent abusive late-night texts and emails to former executive assistant Rebecca Papprill, who worked for him in Parliament.’
Seems that the dirty old bugger just didn’t learn after doing the same thing to the Prime Minister in 2009. This is the same Andrew Williams that decided to act like the dog he is and relieve himself on a public tree in 2010 after drinking at a local bar. No wonder Cameron Slater over at the Whaleoil blog refers to him as the Clown of Campbells Bay!
And there are still months to go until the election, better stock up on the popcorn!
It will certainly be an interesting election in 2014. Agreeing with your comments, assessment on both fronts Aaron.
