50 Shades of Blog

We are now 2 months into the year 2014 CE and I have noticed this trend over the past 6 months or so of social media projects that involve something for a period of time. Two that spring to mind are ‘100 doodles in 100 days‘ and ‘#100happydays’ – mainly because I know people that have done or are doing them. They both bring a degree of happiness to the creators and the consumers which can’t be all bad right.

I am not artistic, and can be a grumpy bugger so both of those projects are out for me. So I decided, being the shy introvert that I am, to make my own project! Unlike the aforementioned projects though I am not going to find a way to do something every single day for a set number of days, that is just nuts. No, I am going to commit to doing 50 blog posts, when it suits me (but probably once a week) about stuff I want to rant about. Conveniently it is an election year in New Zealand so there is bound to be a lot of material for me to be standing on my virtual soap box about.

So this is it.

Sitting back now and reflecting on the week there were a couple of themes that kept coming through for me. Bear with me whilst I highlight them. Continue reading

Look Ma no hands! (or how to autotweet from PowerPoint)

During the presentation Harmony Turnbull & myself delivered at the recent AGOSCI conference we were able to send tweets automagically whilst we were on stage. Had a couple of people ask how we did that, so at the risk of de-mystifying it, here is what you need to know.

Firstly, the process I followed is detailed here on Tim Elliots website. There are a number of options available to display and interact tweets as well as create them as part of his solution, I am only talking about the AutoTweet part in this post. Continue reading
